The little Marbled Orb Weaver, Araneus marmoreus, has a range of gorgeous jewel-like colors and sports these striking markings. It is found across North America and Europe. Orb weavers are queens of spider-ness to me, the only creature to physically and literally pull a beautiful web out of their bodies, a work of art and a splendid hunting tool. This Marbled Orb Weaver vibrates with colors like a circuit board, her book page web spun up from an ancient book, a computer chip, a set of keys, a carnivorous plant.
Hunting for the Right Words is a series exploring how we spin our written words into webs. Using physical book pages as background collage, the series incorporate imagery of USB cables, power strips, and other internet interaction around metaphor-portraits of individual spider species. So do we spin words together and pounce upon them, or throw them like weapons and traps.
